The historic restaurant Lo Scalo is heir to a long tradition that runs through the blood and heart of the Longo family.
It is located in the Marina di Novaglie, in a bay overlooking the sea a few kilometers from Santa Maria di Leuca, the extreme heel of Italy, right where the legend tells that the Adriatic Sea and the Ionian Sea meet
A history of family, tradition and passion
Lo Scalo was founded in 1968 as a small trattoria by the will of grandparents Maria Vittoria and Cesarino, a fisherman with six children.
Together they decide to get involved and to rewrite their lives from scratch by embarking on the tortuous path of catering. Maria Vittoria, with her skilful hands, became the undisputed queen of the kitchen serving, in an always original way, the fresh fish that Cesarino brought her. Both enlivened the evenings of customers and friends accompanying the dishes of the restaurant with a glass of wine and a song.
Since then a lot has happened: the restaurant has been completely renovated creating a exclusive stage, a real panoramic terrace suspended between sky and sea, which has chosen the location as a symbol of refinement and exclusivity.
Today the restaurant, also equipped with a private solarium with sunbeds and sun umbrellas overlooking the enchanting bay of Novaglie, has become a privileged destination of the international jet set, hosting over the years figures such of King Juan Carlos of Spain, Roberto Cavalli, Jude Law, Sienna Miller and David Gilmour of Pink Floyd.
The restaurant is currently managed by Maria Nicolì, daughter of Cesarino and Maria Vittoria, along with her husband Pippi Longo and their sons Agostino and Cesare. Pippi, already ship’s cook of the Lauro fleet, is the entrepreneurial soul of the restaurant; Maria, the ‘Lady of Lo Scalo’, is an exceptional hostess who welcomes guests who choose this heavenly corner of Salento to spend days of pleasure and beauty.
